Printmaking inspired by Tomashi Jackson
2nd-7th Grade
-
Goals / Focus
Starting with a collaborative stamp-painting process, students embrace the look of layering as they work to create their own printed and collaged additions on top. Experimentation is key as students explore how the layers of an artwork can represent the layers of a person.
Students will be able to identify layering in Tomashi Jackson’s artwork in order to investigate both the aesthetic and conceptual function of layering in artwork.
Students will be able to consider the layers of THEIR identity in order to make creative choices of personal representation through artwork
-
Materials / Skills / Technique
Students will be able to use traditional and non traditional art making tools in order to experiment with stamping on paper. Students will be able to use a foam etching process in order to create printing plates. Students will be able to source, cut, and consider the composition of found images in order to add a collage layer to their work.
Students will be able to use printmaking ink and tools in order to print their plate/stamps onto their art. Students will be able to transform their layered 2D material into a 3D piece of artwork.
